Anyone know anything about them ? I just saw some pics on Tina D's site that came from some videos of theirs but in searching for them I come up with nothing.
I see some 'name' girls in these pics ( Robin for one ) so I figure they must strill be around.
Don't get me wrong , I know it's not another 'Fighting Style' or 'DWW' but still wanted to check them out.
I think STJ was just a guy that took pictures of matches, but didn't himself have a company. I thought I remember alot of talk about him around the first Women's Wrestling Convention.
He still does stills for Double Trouble, SabreStudios, and some others. I think he also runs Tasha Welch's Yahoo group. He's got links to all his stuff at the above url.
All of the above just about covers it. All I can add is he's the Photographer Extroadinaire of Women's Wrestling. Has a ton of Y! Groups (if you want 'em listed, just ask--he's even good enough to e-mail you his new pics as they are ready). [As you prolly already know by now (courtesy of Dr Chin), he's also the owner of the Tasha Welch Y! Group.] All I can say is the man is a Legend In His Own Time of Fem Wrestling's Divas (and a hell of a lot of other participants, too). Wouldn't be surprised if half the Web's female wrestling pics are up because of him somewhere, somehow, or some way. To say he's amazing is an understatement.
... From his own Y! Profile page:
"
Compiling the worlds most complete historical archive on lady wrestling, holds and tactics ... "
Thanks for the info .... I had no idea about any of this .
The thing that caught my eye was some recent pics I saw with the 'STJ' signature on them. The pics were of well known women using some holds that I haven't seen since I was a kid seeing my first womens pro match. I thought they might be from some videos but seems like thay were just still images.
In searching for Yahoo Clubs .... how do you do it ? Years ago I remember you could easily do that but then they changed it and afterwards I'd get the ' No Group by That Name Found .... Would You Like To Start A Group ' message .... even if I was positive that group I searched for existed.
If you can, I'd appreciate a couple links to his Yahoo groups clubs you think I'd find interesting. Thanks again for the replies and info.
Hey Pantha' I don't think you gave us enough group listings by stj (LOL)
I use to run a site "you make the fight" back when you were all in diapers ... well maybe some of ya still are (if thats you thing:) and he use to provide me with alot of stuff. Hes a regular in the cali scene I've heard.
I know he does take alot of pics, but theres a God awful lot of stuff on his groups that are not his? Its a little nutty to take credit for something you haven't done and especially considering its like fingerprints @ a crimescene. Someone really should warn the guy although he's been doing this for years.
You mean like...even when Tongue Tangled was still in diapers? Daaayyymmm!!! So tell us, did Moses really part the Red Sea or was that all a load of crap?

Yeah, I thought there was something fishy about this guy. I remember him posting once on the old CWWS board. I don't remember what his initial post was about but I do remember a bunch of people slamming him for something.
You know it's really funny to watch a certain 'someone' suck the peanuts out of Gunny's poop over copyright infringement one day, then drop down to his flabby little knees and slob the knob of a major mooch the next.
STJ is from that original group of scanner/posters that populated the web in its beginnings. The general consensus then was that if you found an image, scanned it, and presented it on the web, it was okay to put your logo or something on it to show who did the work. It was very frustrating back then, as more and more people got online, to find stuff you posted appearing everwhere with no credit for where it came from.
While there are those who claim original creation of everything they post, STJ is not one of them. He always notes (to my knowledge) where he has taken images from.
There is also the feeling in some circles, that when creating collages or themed groups of images, since you are using found images to create something new, it is okay to claim ownership of that new work. Again, in many cases this applies to STJ. As noted above, he does quite a bit of work compiling images of certain holds and presenting them as a study of that move in female fighting. I don't see a problem with that.
Also, he's not charging for these images, or presenting them in a pay section on his site -- an important distinction. That would give rise to a much more reasonable objection.
All in all, he provides an important resource for us on the web. You can shake your head at what you perceive as hubris on STJ's part, but I'd rather have him doing his work than not.
Ha - a - a - a - a - a - a - a - a - a ! ! ! Ha ! Ha ! Ha !
Did your long ears perk up so you could hear the good Doctor, m'Lard Ass Grant ??? ...
Good explanation, Doc. JSK, I thought you raised a (possible) valid concern (as you no doubt always do when making a point), but STJ, with everyone he works with, didn't seem to me to be someone who'd rip anybody, even if he could profit from it. Just not his style; hell, no. He's built up too good of a reputation; he's too highly regarded. Knows how to photograph and knows whom to credit. Maybe what happened in the past was a concern, but with all he's done, I have nothing but praise for him.
Never thought STJ--unlike Mule-lysses Ass Grant--was moochin' off anybody. [Keep your ears on, Mule-lysses, I said m-oo-oo-oo-oo-chin' (as when your roadkill regurgitates and you m-o-o-o-o-o-o-ch on it again), notDr Chin.]
Ya' know, it's even funnier when a lone set of barnyard brains can't remember the ' someone ' doin' the suckin' or the slobbin', but always leaves no doubt who's doin' the crappin'.
Law have changed and continue to do so. I'm not bashing STJ by any means. I've spoken to him personally and use to keep in touch via e-mail. Yes, he usually does his best to preserve stuff, but I noticed a heck of alot of stuff from companies like Joan wise, Dww etc. And, I didn't see their url, logo or anything giving them credit when most (if not all) originally had them. Instead his logo.
Yes, for the most part he either gets permission and/or takes the pics himself. I'm just saying the ones he hasn't he really should (just to cover his ass) take the other ones down.
Just because someone isn't making a dime off something doesn't mean they can't be screwed for using someones stuff. It just depends on whos stuff you use & how you use it.
I remember hearing about a case where some guys stuck his "logo" so to speak on a picture/site which promoted a certain model. When the actual photographer saw it he took legal action. Charging it took away from his livelyhood and falsified the other guys resume putting his in question. Stories like that make me cringe and think twice about alot of things. I just want people to be aware.
