I figured it would be OK to post this here ... since it involved a FF site.
Yesterday I went to the ECNWC site to order a DVD and right away a warning came up saying something to the effect of " ... a malicious virus has been detected and highly recommend exiting immediately ". No need to twist my arm about that so I was gone.
My question is after this happens how do you know when it is it safe to ' go back in the water ' ? Couple hours , couple days , ?????
etc. in order for me to check if there has been a virus placed on that webpage. So far I have not been able to locate any, but I need you to tell me where that warning message pops up.
Cheers
Field Marshall Dio
p.s. DIHQ is very good at these missions. We managed to locate something similar on Dr Chin's website that altered the colour settings on your monitor to black and white, the heinous vagabond! Harrumph!
Thanks for putting this where it should have been posted in the first place.
I got the warning on the DVD information page where you read about them. It was #42 ; Sasha Vs Heidi. It was not the ordering page as I didn't get that far. It popped up immediately saying something like if I didn't get my ass out of there right now, I'd be real sorry, real soon. That was the message but only in 'computer language'.
It reminded me of some Mexican soldiers years ago in San Luis Potosi holding us at gun point and 'suggesting' we go no further in the direction that we were or ;
' ... we'll be carrying your bones out later in the week ".
After a brief discussion, the four of us decided to take their advice ... and here I am today :>) still watching girls wrestling and talking to you.
Anyway, I do appreciate your help with this ... and put that scissors down ! You have to fight that urge to go carving-up that moustache like Clarke Gable's . I'd enjoy some competition if it came to Melany's attention.
Although I didn't go there to find out there could be a couple reasons this happened .........
Possibly your computer isn't configured to allow pop ups. Usually a message pops up, but thats normally the standard one. Maybe in this case the method or program they use to do business and send you to another page isn't allowed in your virus program? Or the "Virus" (if there is one on their page) was on the order page for a short period of time. Its called Page jacking or spoofing. More than likely the "virus" was deleted.
Typically you'll see a yellow lock or a ssl (secure sproket layer) which means its secure and noone can tap into your computer when ordering something, but thats not always the case. About two years ago I ordered a 3D program from a very reperable company and the next day found out my credit card was used to buy acouple hundred dollars worth of webspace and stuff I didn't order. I ended up not paying in the long run, but wondered how the hell they did it!!!
Another senerio could be you already have a virus OR spyware which comes up at a certain point in time. It just so happened to pop up when you were on that page. Meaning it could have popped up anytime or on any other site you might have been on.
Best thing to do is update your spyware definitions and run a full systems scan of your pc. Chances are it isn't encwc's site at all.
Here's the reconnaissance report that Ginger sent back to me using my very best carrier Pigeon: Speckled Jim.
It's not a malicious virus that your pc is detecting it's merely a Third Party cookie that the website is attempting to place in your cookies folder which could detect 'private header' information such as your IP address, your workstation name, or other general pieces of personal information that can be transferred to a Third Party source.
These are very common cookies found on most websites that many spyware programs block, hence your warning message. This site for instance attempts to place a cookie on your pc of a similar nature, although my cookie files are specifically designed to switch on any webcams unbeknownst to the visitor on the off chance that Hollywood or Jenn might be sat their viewing this forum in their lingerie. However it does have its downside, i.e. JSK and Legion's tendency of browsing the internet whilst sat in their underpants. Not a pretty sight I can tell you. urrrrrrrrgh.
Anyway, a third party cookie such as that does'nt really pose you a threat at ECNWC, it's definitely not a virus so put your mind at rest your pc is not under threat.
